Sister Monnie Willis 1932 – 2007

1 Thessalonians 13-14 “But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.”

Please do not mourn for me but instead rejoice.
Sing aloud your praises; let the heavens hear your voice.

My life has not really ended, in fact it’s just begun.
I’ve gone to see my maker, my Savior, the Son.

If you must cry, let joy and peace fill your tears.
For the pain is gone, which I have endured over the years.

I have received my crowns of Glory and laid them at Jesus’ feet.
He showed me your crowns too, that He will give you when you meet.

Jesus and I, we now walk the streets of gold.
Forever with my Savior, my hand He will forever hold.

So be happy for me and let not your heart be sad.
For in this paradise of heaven, there is nothing bad.

No pain, no fear, no sadness, no loss.
Because of Jesus’ sacrifice upon the rugged cross.

All who knew Monnie from the Prayer Warriors will remember her as fervent in her Baptist faith, dedicated to her church family, a stanch Republican, kind hearted, generous, and a loyal friend to all.  Daughter Deborah, son, Matthew, and six grandchildren Matthew, Mark, Joshua, Elisabeth, Joanna, and Melissa survive Monnie after her death.

Please remember the family in your prayers.

I was so saddened to hear of my sister Monnie’s passing. After shedding some tears last night when Connie and Maria told me (and still this morning), I slept fitfully, could not stop praying for the grandkids. If what we believe is true there will be a full scale investigation so those kids are going to need all the prayers they can get.

I myself have known Warrior Monnie since ChristChat and she was a very special lady to us all. No matter what and no matter how things turn out with all of this we have to keep our faith that the Lord will see that justics is served.

There has been a special prayer started on at christians corner in Monnie’s memory and a link back to this post. God bless you, Grace, I know this is hard for you.

  3. Monnie Willis is singing praises to our King right now in Heaven! Isn’t that a wonderful thought?

  6. Angel Radueriel came to me at 9:15 pm yesterday and told me that Sister Monnie was with the Lord and had been reunited with her husband, sister Josephine, her parents, and all of those who had passed before her. Praise God for the reward our sister has received!

Father God, why couldn’t you have taken Jodie or June instead of our sister Monnie? She has devoted her entire life as a steward of your word while they have wasted the precious gift of life you gave them serving only Satan. There seems to me no reason to this tragic loss.

Father of our souls, step in and rescue this family from the trials it is in. Open their eyes and hearts to the truth of the gospel of Christ and His peace, truth, help and salvation. In the name of Christ I pray.

BTW, my comment was sarcasm. I don’t believe that God actively kills people for sinning, nor am I insinuating that this individual, if not fictitious, was a particularly bad sinner.

  18. Adam Nelson said

LOL. Ohh, the funniest thing about this is the rampant hypocrisy on this website. You are so terribly deluded that you could never see. Ban me if that’s how you control opinions on this board.

And besides, if Liberalism is the ultimate sin as Gaines-Crockett pointed out, and God strikes people down for it, then it’s safe to assume that she was a Liberal. After all, Jesus chose America to destroy non-believers and brown people, right? Right!

    This blog is hilarious!

Y’know, thinking about it a bit more, I will retract my first post and apologize for its inappropriate connotations.

HOWEVER, I will say that I think it would be highly appropriate if I were to receive an apology from Psycheout and/or Gaines-Crockett for their comments toward me as well. I apologize to them for my misdeeds and ill-tempered comments against them, and would like an apology as well.

I hereby apologize to the Cookie Monster.

I hope sister Monnie is enjoying her mansion in heaven that the Lord has prepared for her. And I hope her family finds peace in the fact that she is with Jesus now.

  23. Dear Grace,

You have done a lovely job of memorializing Sister Monnie Willis. She was and will always remain an integral part of the email prayer group. In fact, it has been decided to rename our prayer group as the Monnie Willis Prayer Warriors in her memory. Though I never had the pleasure of meeting Monnie in person I was able to speak with her via the telephone on several occasions and found her to be quite charming if just a tad on the nasally side. I must say that after seeing her picture I felt that I knew her all my life. What a robust woman she was, no nonsense and perfectly coiffed, a very natural looking woman indeed. Bless her heart she suffered so at the end, it comes as a blessing that she passed peacefully and with dignity.

Daniel and I have sent a flower arrangement to the funeral home, which, for what it cost, could be used as the centerpiece for all of the others. Please know that during this time we are praying for her grandchildren, church family, and even her son and daughter, though in the case of the latter it is for mercy that they did not show their own mother.

Sister Monnie would have been honored, possibly even embarrassed by the outpour of love and compassion extended her via this post. Additionally, Monnie would have appreciated the comment that by most is considered irreverent, in that the fruits of one man has been exposed as rotten at his own hand. I remember Monnie saying one time in a prayer that you know a man by his fruits and that in time the smell of decay will give them away. Truer words could not be spoken, for the putrid apple in bottom at the bottom of this apple basket is one that is rotten to the core and smells to the high heavens.

You are to be commended, Grace, for such an eloquent and thoughtful tribute to a dear friend and sister in the Lord. Our thoughts and prayers are also with you.

  24. Dear Cemetery Plot Broker,

Have you any decency at all? I am appalled that you would barge into a memorial post to try to make a quick buck. Do you sit in the lobby of nursing homes or hospital waiting rooms hoping to catch someone grieving? May you find running water beneath every plot you own and your investments completely worthless.

    Helen Bock,

You are always the first one there with an elegant and comforting word. Bless you, dear.

    Psycheout,

Your heart is as large and generous as the late Monnie Willis is/was. I too forgive Adam for his reprehensible behavior in the past. Our traditions and customs are something that, being from Canada, he is not acquainted with. Therefore, I extend my Christian hand to him in apology as well. As the better person it is my duty to teach those who are unlearned, embrace those who are tainted, and accept the less fortunate. In Adam’s case, I have failed in part and have let him down. For that, I am very sorry.

  27. I just realized you all got a vacant seat on the prayer team so count me in! This calls for a celebrateion that Monnie Willis is FINALLY getting her reward

  28. Scarlet's Memaw said

Hallelujah, the prize has been won! Let us rejoice with the angels in heaven! Monnie has the envy of my soul . . . every day I say, “Another step closer to home,” but Monnie has reached the final destination! Hallelujah!!

1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

  29. I am so sorry to read about Monnie passing like she did. When I got the message I couldn’t believe it, we thought she was turning around for the better. Grace, if there is anything I can do to fill in for you during all of this please let me know. I called Lynelle and she sends her love and will call you tonight.

Lord we lift up the Monnie Willis family to you for nurturing and healing during this sad loss. Be with them and show them the joy that comes with being a child of God. Amen.

  30. Monnie Willis was always a tireless campaigner in the war to end the murder of womb babies.
Many a time when my sidewalk counselors faced a sudden shortage of blood-filled balloons, I’d just put through a call to Monnie and she’d put out a call to arms, and faster than you can say “you may be a whore, but your unborn child is innocent!”, a carload of wobbly, quivering red rubber balls would turn up on my doorstep.

And they’d always be accompanied by a small note, written in the daintiest of hands:

“Put the fear of God into them, Tobin, and put a few stains in their harlot clothes!”

    Bless her.

My comments were meant with the up most respect for the deceased. It is a sad time when someone would accuse me of being less then honest in regards to the passing of a loved one. It was not meant as rude or an attempt to sell any thing. In this case I would not be able to help any one in this family. I was simply offering my condolences as a Christian nothing more.

  34. Sen David Witter(REP)-LA said

Why are you all chastising our dear brother the cemetery plot broker? I am sure he is as honest and pure hearted and without hypocrisy or shame as are the rest of us. After all our lives as Republicans and Baptists and Brownbackers are about praising Jesus and all that; but we all know that deep deep down the real action is not in church or even in the harlot’s bed but in seizing upon every opportunity to make a living or a fast buck the easy way. What’s the harm in commercialism and capitalism in a time of grief anyway? Do you think the florists will decline payment for the dozens of arrangements in tribute to our dear departed sister Monnie? I should hope not!
And to Adam–you’re a wicked little bugger for suggesting to the bereaved that this lovely lady succumbed from liberalism or something wimpy like like freedom and justice. Praise the Lord! But I forgive you Adam like I forgive Larry Flynt for revealing a few of my -uh- indiscretions.
By the way, if any of my Christian brethren and sisters are aware of a place where I can snatch a good deal on diapers please let me know. I prefer Pampers.

  42. Adam Nelson said

Though I think June’s behaviour is totally unacceptable, I still find it funny that you people refer to each other as “warriors”. Warriors! Once again, you prove that the only way you can view the world is through the eyes of constant conflict and death. You, Gaines-Crockett, are by far the most evil person I have ever known.

  43. June said

“You, Gaines-Crockett, are by far the most evil person I have ever known.”

That’s because you never met Monnie!

Monnie used to talk with her mouth full of chicken salad and you would get spit all over your face and arms while she was rebuking someone. I remember looking down at the backs of my hands and where there was her mayo-saliva my skin was stinging and steam was rising up.

It was then that I realized that woman actually had poison in her. She was like one of those South American lizards that spit poison at you.

She was VERY dark sided and of the Devil.

I rebuke her in her death because I was too afriad to do it while she still breathed. I have come face to face with the Great Deceiver and He was Monnie Willis!

The ONLY reason you had a problem with her was because she had the guts to tell you in Jesus’ name that you were a crazy whore who was ruining her life. She tried to get you right with the Lord and you resented it. Well boo hoo! Too dang bad!

I’m only going to say this once. When the Lord Jesus was looking at you and Monnie He choose the wrong one to kill!

I will miss her. You? I can’t wait to miss!

  50. Even though I am so glad to be back home I was so sad to hear about Monnie passing away the way she did. She was a fine lady with a heart of gold. Thank the heavens she is singing with the angels now.

Grace, if there is anything we can do for you just let us know. Frank and me are so concerned about you getting caught up with those children of hers. I have all of her emails saved and will send them to the district attorney or whoever I need to if that would help.

June Gordon and Jodie – You will not be going to Monnies fueneral and making blame fools out of yourselves. All that family needs is to see June showing up in a super short skirt “dropping her keys” in front of every male old enough to have hair under his arms and Jodie falling face down into the grave site drunk off her behind. I have it on good authority that there will be police at the service so you two better stay far away.

All of the kind words written about Monnie would make her happy. If there is a computer in heaven Miss Monnie is on it and reading how much everyone loved her.

    God Bless! :-)

I think where there is smoke there is fire! What Darleen wrote reminded me of something I have put out of my mind.

When I was in high school Miss Monnie was teaching gym glass. She said that I was full of the devil and tried to “lay hands on” me on a mat under the ropes.

She got one or two fingers under the elastic of my little green panties and I immediately knew something was way wrong. I screamed and she stopped. But she slapped me and told me to never speak lies about her.

  59. Another thing what about when Matthew got so liquored up with us that night and confessed up he was a queer. Was it you or me that sent the playgirl subscription to Monnies house with his name on it?

Dont think about making up I still laothe you.

  60. I never told ANYBODY this but when shane and me was seperated and the babie swas young I did go to dinner with Mr Willis but nothing happened PROMISE he was too old and probly coudn;t do it anywat but youd know better than me Well when Monnie found out we just had dinner she told me I would let her do things to me or she’d tell the whole church I “F” Mr. WIllis. I told her to go ahed that no woman was munching my rug.

I DO remember when we died that nasty Chawowwow of hers! There is so much about Miss Monnie I have blocked out of my head. It had it no hair so we just ended up dying the skin! LOL I can still smell that pink flesh after you yanked it out from the toaster oven!

  62. God we was crazy back then She deserved every thing she got. I was hoping shed suffer at least another month before licking the bucket. You do know it was Deborah who told MOnnie you sold her that junk and Monnie had you arested not me. I hated you by then but not enough to have tou arrested that came later. Deborah tried making a move on me to I bet Monnie molested her and that made her get like that when she was on drugs, Whats your excuse?

I’m sorry we killed her little dog. I never meant to do that. I honestly think it was the only thing in the whole world that old witch loved.

You should have gone to PASTOR with that threat! But I’m not pointing fingers I should have gone to pastor and the principle after she tried to touch me like that.

The thing is — I ain’t going to pretend she was nice just cause she’s dead.

I’m willing to balance out a dead dog for a finger in my cooter and call it even, but that still leaves all the other nasty things that woman done did!

  64. I never did forgive her for treating me and the kids and you to like we was so beneath her. Always thought she was better than EVERYBODY else cause she had her that Mary Kay Cadilac. God I hated that car. I used to have the boys sneak over there and pee on it when it was dark.

I remember when Miss Donna replaced her kitchen floor and there was all them ceramic tiles in the ally out back. Rhonda and me went and found the sharpest slivers we could find and jammed them under the wheels of Monnie’s caddy. When she backed out for church the next morning she had herself THREE flat tires and missed her dang solo! I can still hear her screaming in the drive!!!!! Those were such good times! :)

Sister Monnie Willis was an amazing woman. How many of us could have recovered from both a life of drug abuse and the adult sex industry and still remained so well grounded and turned our lives around. I remember how fresh she was in her first movie “Backseats and Dark Meat ” (1951), her rise to stardom and excellence in “Diagnosis Ecstasy” (1955), and the evidence of her drug fueled downward spiral that could be seen in “Fast Cash” (1959), “Anything for a Dollar” (1960) and “Cat Food is All I Can Afford”(1961).

And to think that last day I saw her at her job greeting people at Wall*Mart she still seemed as energetic and full of life as she did back in 1951 when I first saw her. Her vivacious attitude and friendly slap on my buttocks put the exclamation point on the day. I think without her I just won’t be shopping quite as often as I used to at Wall*Mart.
