Appalling news from the West Coast: The latest strain of the disease, uber-liberalism, has crept its way up the California coast and into Seattle, Washington. Men’s skirts, it would seem, is what the fashionable-fairies from San Francisco to Seattle are wearing this season. They are no longer content to swish and prance about in shorty-shorts or repulsively tight slacks anymore, so they have began wearing women’s clothing.
The kilt, long associated with those ghastly Scots, has seen a drastic increase in popularity among the jet-setting homosexual crowd. One manufacturer of this perfectly obscene item, Utilikilts in Seattle, was recently interviewed and subsequently featured prominently on the front page of Yahoo News. (See links below)
Friends, we are living in a world where nothing is sacred and very little is left to the imagination. The very last thing we need in this country is for homosexuals to be permitted, by law mind you, to wear a skirt. It is understood, that while the sodomite would unnaturally embrace the feminine attributes of a man-skirt or kilt, the main purpose is that it grants them easy and quick access for fornicating.
Something must be done to stop this horrendous fashion-do not from making its way into your Christian neighborhood. Immediately I might add for the children must be protected from ever seeing such a thing. I suggest contacting your Senator immediately and inquiring about any laws regarding indecent exposure, which might apply tom this disgusting fad.
No real man, not a heterosexual one with a shred of self-respect, Scottish or not, would permit himself to be caught dead in a skirt, unless he was playing the bagpipe while in Scotland, at a historically-themed wedding. Even then I find his heterosexuality suspect at best.

How are kilts gay? Kilts are the considered super masculine… I’m a seamstress, and I’ve made a kilt (someone paid me a LOT of money)… it takes about nine YARDS of fabric. Originally, they were an all-purpose garment, heavy wool tartan that was used as a cover for the lower half as well as a sleeping bag for the night time in the cold.

I think it’s quite the opposite, actually… I went to scotland with a group from my school two years ago, and one of the guys there was scottish and his family was actually from the town we were in, so while we were there, he looked up his clan’s tartan and had a kilt made from it- it’s very expensive. A kilt costs as much as a business suit, and is just as formal. Anyway, I don’t remember any guys going crazy over him, but the girls certainly did. It didn’t make him gay at all, it made him the ultimate lady’s man.

As a Christian man one with Scottish decent I am appalled that your pastor would say these words. it is true Christianity is the greatest cause of atheism in the world today. Jesus spoke words of love and passion with a spirt of forgiveness and grace. The words I hear from your church/Pastor have no fruit or love and you should be ashamed. As another Christian man, I am disappointed by the lack of understanding and love being shown by some who claim to represent the ‘Christian’ position. Christ didn’t look at the person or their attire, he looked at their heart and their soul. With an appeal to logic, suggesting that Jesus would have worn pants if he could, because the garb of that time was effeminate is plainly silly. Cultural standards change. This will be agreed by any women who choose to exercise those freedoms by wearing pants when they choose. Would these same women suggest that standards for male attire can never change (although….they have already changed since the time of our Lord, including the development of pants).
The news item referenced is an unfortunate example of (likely) drunken debauchery. If the man in question had been wearing pants, they would have been removed and the story would have garnered no media attention.
Speaking plainly….since it’s evident that logic cannot be used to sway minds on this topic – are there not larger issues which would be better served with our efforts? Drunkenness is the vice demonstrated in this instance – not kiltedness.
Think for a moment if you would. Are you focussed on the issues brought to you by the Holy Spirit, or have you been deceived into wasting your efforts and taking your eyes off heaven? What a great victory for the forces of evil if Christians stop focusing on Christ, and invent other ‘issues’ to occupy their hearts and minds.

I humbly suggest to the blogger and his supporters that they take a deeper look at their revulsion of kilts and attempt to discover the true nature of their hatred. Is it based on an understanding of the garment -including its historical importance- or a feeble attempt to once again attack the gay community?
And be not confused – a kilt is not a skirt. Regardless of what a news anchor or patron may say, they are not the same. I find this piece deeply disturbing. My grandfather was a Christian. First Generation American born to Scots immigrants. He served in the Armed forces, was at the Battle of the Bulge. A golden glove champion, a father of 8. He was the most manly man I knew and he would have been proud to wear a kilt. They are considered appropriate formal or informal attire in a few places and anyone who associates this with being gay is just ignorant. Do you suppose Jesus wore pants? Seems that everything I’ve seen in churches across america points to a really long shirt that resembles a dress. Homosexuality and the Kilt are two things unrelated. I am of Scots-Irish descent and fiercely proud of my heritage. The kilt represents not only what clan you are from but pride in your heritage. There is a whole history behind the wearing of kilts that the author of this blog has failed to researdh and it is really so sad. My question is this: if men wear pants and women wear skirts, during the Renaissance period when men wore tights and lace and wigs and powdered their nose, did that also make them homosexual? I agree with the comment made that if I wasn’t a Christian and I read this slop, I would want no part of it. To be honest I believe that every person has a right to speak their opinion, but then there is the line that can be crossed, where it becomes biased and ridiculous.
There are a lot of coincidental evidence to prove the ramblings of these people, but in the end its their closed minded opinion versus the cultural make-up of other people.

I am sickened by people who say things like this in this article. I find almost beyond my ability to fathom how a person could actually believe this. I am ashamed to be associated with people of such faith. As a previous poster said, the clothing of virtually all ancient peoples, such as the Jews who lived at the turn of the century, wore unbifurcated garments. And the allegation that kilts are “sissy” “gay” or in some way “anti-Christian” is laughably reactionary and a highly uneducated position. I would like to hear what USMC 1st Sgt. Dwayne Farr, who wears camo kilts and play bagpipes on the battlefield in Fallujah, would have to say about that.
Frankly, I don’t comprehend why honoring my heritage as an American of Scots-Irish descent, while also being extremely comfortable, makes me gay? I am sure my girlfriend would have to disagree.
And as for wearing kilts for “easy access,” although I admit that these comments are sort of running jokes amongst those of us who wear kilts, I am still a virgin, and plan to remain thus until I am married. It’s not as if putting on a kilt spontaneously causes you to become a crazed sex maniac.
Please, if you are going to write an article such as this, please educate yourself on the issue. I could possibly understand how a person might arrive at the conclusion that a man who wears women’s clothing is homosexual; however, the kilt is a man’s clothing, and most men who wear the kilt are straight, nice men who just like the comfort afforded by this very manly garment (e.g. Braveheart).
Personally, I very much enjoy wearing my kilt, and I look forward to the day that I am ordained to the priesthood and can wear one in the Clergy Tartan.

I have been a member of a community supported bagpipe band for over 13 years. I can provide you with information on how many Church functions we attend each year to play for their services. I can also provide information on how many Christian funerals we play for each year. Do you dare say that all those who strap on a kilt and play for fallen soldiers or firefighters or policemen are hell bound queers?? May I remind you of all the military funerals some of us have played for? Or band members who have paid their own way to play at services for those who died that fateful day in September?
My lineage comes from the Borders of Scotland and include members who fought in the American Revolutionary War. I wear my kilts proudly as a symbol of my family and its long history. Men, women and children in Scotland were slaughtered by “God-fearing Christians” who invaded their lands so that their country could gain more money and land; to hold power over people who simply wanted to live their lives free. These comments insult me, my family, my lineage, Scotland and all those who read it. Quote whatever you want to make yourselves feel as though you will put me back beneath you but in the end we all know who the righteous are. And it is certainly NOT you all.
And to return your volley of the “crimes” committed by Kilted Men I reply,

It is hard to add anything to comments made by Kilted brethern, they have made their points logically and incontrovertibly. Yet, I would be remiss if I did not speak up about such bigoted and ignorant tripe that I endured when I read this so called blog. A garment has nothing to do with a person’s sexuality, to think such a thing, calls into a person’s ability to understand human sexuality in any way. Secondly, a kilt is NOT a skirt, nor is it a woman’s garment. Perhaps the most disturbing blurb in this blog was the reference to “ghastly Scots”, I found this highly insulting, and racist. I am very proud of my Scottish and Irish ancestry. I also find it highly hypocritical that someone who claims to be a follower of Jesus, would actually spew such hateful bile. Now before you claim that I am a raving homosexual, I will simply state that I am a very heterosexual male. I also wear kilts, and have never felt effeminate in any way. I don’t care who you are, you are going to sweat your jollies off in a 120 degree welding area. I work for my living. When i get home from actually earning my life the first thing i do is i put on my kilt. I’m not afraid to wear it wherever i go. Ive wore them to formal events, non-formal events, and everyday activities. And let me tell you something, in the eyes of a company CEO, wearing a kilt to an all suit convention says more than just another guy in a suit trying to settle that big deal. I am a Scots man and a Christian and I usually wear a kilt when I attend Church. Indeed most days I wear a kilt in preference to trousers as I find kilts more comfortable. Some years ago I lost my long-term girlfriend who went off with a transexual, I was very lucky to meet a new woman who has been my dear and loving wife now for more than twenty years. My past experience made me feel very bitter against homosexuals and lesbians, though I try to practice a Christian tolerance towards all human creation irrespective of their country of birth or sexual preference. I have no problem with gay people, men or women. Heck not even bi or transgender. I grew up in a town where racism and bigotry was a quiet normal thing, and I think thats wrong.
I have a problem with the idea that wearing a types of clothing makes you one thing or another. If I put on a Pope hat would that make me the Pope? Or a suit and tie to make me a CEO? No.
I support all PEOPLE in their right as citizens of a free country to dress how they please. I might not want to look at a large man in a tu-tu, but gosh darn it, he has the right to do it.

Being Scottish and having family from Scotland this article was not a good one. Why is wearing a kilt so bad and offensive? You’ve had men wearing kilts for thousands of years in Scotland and even over here in the United States for hundreds of years. I guess to some people out there the freedom of choice should be taken away from people. People should be able to do whatever they want as long as they do not break the law. My father is Presbyterian and married to our mother for over 25 years, he served in the United States Military for over half of that time. Biblically speaking Deuteronomy 22:5 forbids the wearing of women’s clothing. I would like to point out that a kilt has been and always will mens clothing. Your cultural perception is that it is similar to a skirt, and therefore taboo. There is a problem with this however. It raises the question: Does this verse apply to the fasions worn then, or the fashions worn now? Raising the order of that question: Who are you to descide such things?
When this verse was written, some 4000+ years ago the predominent fasion of the world was that of Egypt (at the time the worlds largest civilisation). It is well know that in Egypt at that time that Men wore brief, fitted linen kilts and women for loose flowing pants.
If the verse applies to those fasions then we are all in trouble as we’ve been backwards for hundreds of years. If the verse applies to fashion as it changes through time, then it is culturally relative. If it is relative to the culture then who are you to judge what is masculin in someone else’s culture?

Not only do I feel that men should be allowed to wear them, I think more men should think about it. That’s a cool kilt, but it’s not a true kilt (and not only because it’s not tartan). A kilt is made of about seven to nine yards of fabric, made into tiny little pleats and pinned around the waist. I made one for a friend of mine… I got the pattern from Heritage patterns. It took FOREVER to line up the pleats with the plaid perfectly.

Confused, you are correct in the traditional sense. But many of the neo-traditional kilts don’t use “the whole nine yards”. For many of us that don’t own (read usually can’t afford) a traditional tartan the neo-kilt. Utilikilt, Amerikilt are great alternatives. They are American made (no offence to those outside, espicailly Scotland) of good quality and value. I own 4 Utilikilts of various models all have gotten GREAT response from those that see them. Advice to young me looking for women. Buy a kilt.

Masculinity is confused with sexual orientation. The kilt is indeed a masculine garment but is not a statement of sexuality just as women wearing trousers is not. Some heterosexual men wear kilts and some gay men wear kilts. Conversely many heterosexual men wear pants and many homosexual men wear pants. Nor does the wearing of pants automatically mean that anything is worn underneath them and what is “regimental” in a kilt is “going commando” in pants.
But it’s all amusing and a good laugh and the aatiee is very subtle and clever. I don’t know much about Senator Brownback but I can’t help being sorry for him as it’s not what he himself is doing or saying but the guilt by association

Kilts have been worn for centuries, and are known for their versatility and ability to accommodate the wearer. A greatkilt when worn by a Highlander was highly useful to keep them mobile for battle, to carry all sorts of necessary items in the folds, and to keep warm during the night. A kilt as worn now is a true connection to a person’s Scottish heritage.
To represent my gender, a kilted man is truly a sight to behold. As for other knock off kilts, like the Utilikilt – I’m proud to associate with folks that have a sense of humor.

Prince Charles of Great Britain wears kilts both in casual settings, as well as for the occasional dress ceremony. It is more popular than a tux for most Scottish nobility, and it is an item of clothing that is generally only worn by men, although shorter versions have recently been reintroduced for women (most notably among the Catholic school systems).

I wore my kilt proudly in the British Army and my own tartan at games and other events. Wearing jeans or trousers is more practical these days (it can be cold in the highlands) and I myself do not fancy people wearing kilts as a fashion statement. It is a heritage that is scots/celtic which includes Wales, Ireland, Britony etc.
However if a man wants to wear a leather kilt then I think that it is his business. We are after all supposedly living in a free world.

Reading this over again, I see the problem. The problem is that there is a prejudice or a personal fashion distaste for men in skirts. Fine, whatever. The problem with that is that a kilt is not a skirt. Once that idea makes sense, it is easier to understand. But as long as one continues to believe that a kilt is a skirt or female clothing, then there will never be an understanding. As long as one associates a kilt to femininity, then there will be continued disgust for it.

Wow what a battle! I was born in Scotland and raised in Australia. I was sent this blog via the MacLean Clan central website which I like to track down relations on. I am also a born again Christian and happen to attend a Baptist Church at present although raised in the Pressy Church I believe there are no fences in Heaven just a loving God who is forgiving and does not permit any evil in His presence in Heaven. A kilt I was taught by my father was a mans attire and that each clan had there own tartan. I am finding my scottish ancestry is important to me and wish my son had not been influenced by his wife not to wear a kilt at his wedding. If my father had been alive he would have been so disappointed as this son of mine had inherited his kilt and all the regalia that went with it. He had been given the privilige over my only brother who should have inherited it. Alas he had become an alcoholic and my father gave the privilige to my son as he had learnt to play the bagpipes and wore a kilt when performing with the band he belonged to on many occasions. A personal story I suppose. It does not change my belief in God whom my father and mother taught me of from birth. I believe real men wear kilts and it is a privilige not a right.

i am a God fearing chritstian and believe tha jesus died for our sins. i wear a kilt so i guess that that they won’t let me in to heaven since i wear a “man-skirt”. well i’ll tell ya some thing when i wlak thru the pearly gates i hope and pray that i receive my heavenlt kilt the God made for me and my brothers that would wear one. and hang with Christ wearing one. so will see who laughs last when we get there and if i win i’ll personally come up to ya and hug ya,then lift my kilt up at ya!amen
